Why do both Chipotle and Qdoba exist?

I went to Chipotle for the first time last week, and I went to Qdoba tonight for the first time. Upon walking in to Qdoba and looking at the menu, they're the exact same damn thing except that Qdoba has a bunch of stuff no one needs on a burrito. Why do they both exist separately and not just merge or something?
